The clubs anniversary dive

We had a really good turnout for this event with 12 club divers and two spouses. The weather turned out glorious; see Paul .... the P&T curse is well and truly broken! The water temp was quite nice once we got over the initial shock, yes Trev and I are still diving in semi dry’s, everyone else was in dry suits (chickens).

As there were so many of us, and with Ecky’s renowned bad viz, we decided to split into two groups. Paul & Fiona led one group, Trevor and I the other, we decided to follow the roped trail on the near side of the quarry, which was a good idea as the viz was awful.  We all found the armoured personnel carrier, boat, sports car, truck, AA guns and lots of fish life, but someone’s broken the toilet. Its sad to think you even get vandals under water.

On the second dive Paul and Fiona sadly had to leave us, and Venessa decided to sit this one out, we went in as a large group of 9, we planned the dive so we could find the plane then follow the outside wall of the quarry up to the Beach area and back around. Trevor and Dave Miles (yes he’s back in the water!) both took compass bearings and off we all went. The viz was even worse on this dive, we found the plane, a couple of boats, then a large container which by the time some of the group had passed through and others swam around, the silt bottom had been kicked up which ended up with us splitting up into 3 groups, oh what fun, at least Jonny & Hanna got the beach view, Mark, Terry and I got the large cloud of red sludge, and Trevor, Dave, Dave and Alan well they had the compass bearing and ended up at the exit point.

Most of us decided two dives were quite enough so we headed down to the beach to set up the BBQ and get some food on the go. Terry and Alan decided to have a third dive, eventually returning to scoff the last of the burgers. Everyone seemed to have a really good time, even the non-divers of our group Diane and Gail were blessed with lovely weather whilst they sat and relaxed as we dived.

Thanks again to everyone who attended this event and for the food, drink, and charcoal donations. We ended up with so much food that we can have a BBQ when we visit Trefor in September.
