Meeting minutes 24/02/10
Thanks to everyone how attended the first dive meeting of the New Year it the attendance was excellent with sixteen members appearing. This is a great start on what will be the benchmark for all our future activities.
Main points discussed were :
Current status - We reviewed our current activities and briefly discussed what members want from the club. We are now forming an identity and direction. The club will remain a non-fee paying organisation which means it’s effectively a group of individuals with a shared interest. Success or failure of the club will lie almost entirely with the level of enthusiasm and input from members. This being the case, a request has been placed for a few members to become involved in the organisation of outings etc. If interested in participating, please e-mail John Taylor. The work is simple but invaluable to the club!
Current venue/meeting day & time? Maximum seating in Aquaventurers shop classroom would appear to be about 20. This is satisfactory at this time but will be reviewed if meeting sizes increase significantly.
Facilities at meeting (tea/coffee etc)? Rob has agreed to provide a modest sponsorship of the new Aquaventurers club e-newsletter. This will cover costs for tea/coffee materials for our meetings.
Scubatext information service? We are now fully utilising the free Scubatext service. This will be a key communication tool in our activities and is ideal for communicating real-time information e.g. informing cancelled or re-located dives at short notice. If you wish to go on the text service, send your mobile number to me on 07515 058919 or e-mail it to me. Numbers are retained confidentially and not shared. Just follow instructions on text.
Club dive calendar for whole year? A dive calendar for 2010 is currently under construction. Expect regular trips to Caperwray and Delph, with additional runs to Trefor Pier and Treardur Bay etc. See notice board in shop.
Club notice board? Now fully operational and displaying a host of information in the Aquaventurers shop. Take time to check it out!
Quarterly Club Newsletter? Now being compiled. This will provide entertainment, member’s tall tales(!), submitted photos and classifieds for 2nd hand dive kit etc. Send your photos for submission to Bxtaylor2@hotmail.com
Club membership forms given to training divers and casual shoppers? This has now started and we look forward to seeing lots of new members. Remember! We all started once so please provide your support and encouragement to new divers.
Club links with PADI continuation training/speciality courses? Over next few months, we will be developing links with Rob’s PADI training links. OW divers can book themselves on advanced OW courses which are now being held several times a year. Look out for the speciality courses!
Guest speakers at meetings? Members responded well to this suggestion. Examples include Marine Conservation, RNLI, Merseyside Police Divers, Fire Service River Rescue and Hyperbaric Unit etc.
Farne Island diving weekend on April 10/11 – Max 12 bookings. Only two vacant slots at time of printing! See info on shop notice board and in forthcoming newsletter
Club Social - We propose to have a social get-together for drinks on Saturday 3rd April. Venue the Rat & Parrot in Liverpool at 7.30pm. This will be confirmed nearer the time. Come along and get to know each other!
Again, thanks to all who attended and keenly participated tonight. We look forward to the club developing into an active and self-sustaining organisation. To achieve this we need regular member input.
Next club meeting will be Wed 7th April. This will include the briefing for the Farne Islands trip so all persons booked on that trip please attend.
Safe diving!
John Taylor
