Fishguard review
Review supplied by Paul Wisse.
The spider crab pictured below was the only photo taken on day one that proves there was any life down there at Penanglas Bay. The visibility was very poor 50cm and only myself and fiona got a decent dive 30mins or so. The rest had somewhat shorter dives.
We only did the one dive on the first day as the conditions and viz were pretty poor. We tried our hand at mackerel fishing but didn't a catch any fish, I caught a mussel and Paul Daley!!! Now that was a big one!
Ged left us at this point as he didn't see the point of diving when you can't see anything, after drowning our sorrows in the Indian restaurant (a highlight being my curried scotch egg) and pub.
The second day was better and we got to some more sheltered spots where the viz was about 5m. The first site was the Dan Beard Wreck, mainly debris now but an anchor chain, and funnel were found as well as a variety of life.
Strumble reef was our second dive site and had an abundance of life all over the place. Spider crabs, edible crabs, velvet swimming crabs, sponges, Devonshire cup corals, light bulb sea squirts, fan worms, starfish and fish, check out the AquaV gallery.
All in all it was a fairly good diving weekend, if the weather had been better the previous week then the diving should have been better. Each time we went out in the boat we saw seals and porpoises (though not when we got in the water).
Please check out the gallary for further pictures taken on the day.
