Sea-search 25/11/06 at the Blue Planet Aquarium

Sea-search aims to increase knowledge of the UK marine environment and contribute towards it’s conservation through participation of SCUBA divers.

The Observer course is a great introduction to understanding the marine environment and whilst being a fun day, is designed to help people record what they see underwater and put that wealth of information back into conservation.

It also has the added benefit of qualifying those who pass the course to take part in Sea-search dives all over the country as well as North Wales.  These trips vary from a single day to weeklong dive trips all around Britain...........if you want to see more of recent dives or dives organised for this year, look at the Sea-search website   www.seasearch.co.uk

There were about 20 divers on the course 4 from our club and we all found the day to be very informative, it make’s you realise the vast amount of different types of UK marine life, seabed habitats and associated wildlife for divers to explore and report on.

After the course (which I’m please to say we all passed) we could either have a guided tour around the aquarium with the Sea-search team to put the teachings of the day into practise (but without getting wet) or we could wander around by ourselves and just enjoy the marine life and other creatures.

We decided the latter and even got to see the Blue Planet’s ”Shark experience” participants and instructors in the water with the Sharks swimming past their heads. Mandy (a fellow dive buddy) was one of the instructors and gave us a wave (when the sharks weren’t about!).

We‘re just waiting for the British weather to improve so we will be able to put our training into practice. If you’d be interested in doing a Sea-searcher course, check out their web site above.
